Product focus – DMM Rope and Tool bags
With the DMM Porter 75 bag coming back into stock next week after a bit of an absence I figured now would be a good time to take a look at DMM Professional's excellent bag range. I'm a big fan of the work bags, they have freestanding functionality, come in really useful sizes and get the balance right between lightweight, durability and value.
The range consists of the 45 & 70 litre Porter Bags, 30 & 45 litre Transit Rope Buckets and 4 & 6 litre Tool Bags

DMM Rope Protection Range
Here at EE we really like DMM's rope protection products and with IRATA's recent focus on edge protection now its a good time to have a look at them. RopePro, is designed to help safeguard elements of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as ropes, lanyards and slings from harm or contamination, as well as serving to protect property from rope damage.
The range is concise but targeted at end users for use in ‘real’ work situations. Innovative use of modern aramid fabrics (Kevlar®) and traditional coir matting, provides the versatility required in protecting ropes and edges accordingly.

New Product – Sterling WorkPro Static Rope – an entirely new approach to rope construction
For the WorkPro, Sterling have developed an entirely new approach to rope construction—one that makes for balanced elongation in the core and sheath so they share the load evenly. This makes the WorkPro Series stronger than other ropes of similar construction while retaining a small but important amount of elongation.
Sterling's newest static rope is the direct result of a rigorous in-use testing and evaluation process with rope access professionals working in variable and harsh conditions. The final design incorporates their feedback and benefits from Sterling's extensive experience workin...

How to work out the date of manufacture from Sterling’s Lot number
Date of manufacture for your climbing gear is worth recording, especially for 'soft' goods like ropes, harnesses, slings and prusiks, as materials can degrade over time. Since the introduction of the PPE laws in Europe manufacturers have been including instructions which give guidance on obsolescence timelines. Its typically around 10 years from date of manufacturer for nylon and polyester type products but does vary so check.
Sterling's current Lot# system (introduced in 2015) makes it easy to ascertain the date of manufacture of an item. Lot#'s consist of 4 digits, the first 2 are the yea...

Inspection and Maintenance of Locking Gates
Download this step-by-step ‘walk-through’ to aid with the inspection and maintenance of DMM auto-lock carabiner gate mechanisms. Following on from a visual and tactile assessment, there are three gate action (function) tests described, to ensure that the gate closes fully and reliably. A non-silicone based lubricant such as Duck Oil is recommended (do NOT use graphite powder) to reduce friction at the hinge rivet, within the mechanism and contact areas.
As always, if you have any doubts about the functionality or integrity of a carabiner, take it out of service and seek advice. A downloadab...
